A reading by Galician Poet Isaac Xubín followed by the Aspects Festival Club event.

We welcome Galician Poet Isaac Xubín to Bangor to read for us while he spends a month at the Tyrone Guthrie Centre, Co. Monaghan as part of the Aodh Ruadh Ó Domhnaill Poetry Exchange.

Isaac Xubín is an award-winning poet, novelist and translator. He taught Galician Language and Culture in UCC for five years and has also created a Galician-Basque dictionary. His collections include Con gume de folla húmida (2012), A cadencia da fractura (2017) and Xenealoxía dun intruso (2020). 

His debut novel, Non hai outro camiño (2016), was awarded the Spanish Critics Prize. Xubín is the foremost translator of Basque literature into Galician, including works from Kirmen Uribe, Uxue Alberdi, Karmele Jaio, Harkaitz Cano and others. Tempo de exilio (2017), his selection and translation of Joseba Sarrionaindia, was awarded the Etxepare Translation Award.

Isaac's translations from the Irish include An Beal Bocht, and a number of Irish poets including Mary O’Malley, Theo Dorgan and Ceaití Ní Bheildiúin in A Different Eden: Ecopoetry from Ireland and Galicia. His translation of Claire Keegan’s Small Things Like These is forthcoming.

Aspects Festival is delighted to be a host partner of the Aodh Ruadh Ó Domhnaill Poetry Exchange for the third year.

The poetry reading by Isaac will be followed with the Aspects Festival Club where you are invited to read a piece of writing or poems for three minutes.
