A special event of Galician poetry, music and delicacies.
Aspects Festival is a host partner of the Aodh Ruadh Ó Domhnaill Poetry Exchange for the fourth year. This year, the residency is awarded to Galician Poet Maria Álvarez Martinez, who will spend the month of September at the Tyrone Guthrie Centre, Co. Monaghan.
Maria Álvarez Martinez (known as Masha) currently works as a secondary school teacher in Galicia. She lived for two years in the United States (Sioux Falls, South Dakota), which inspired her award-winning collection, Dakota (The XV Victorian Taibo Poetry Prize). She combines her professional work with a musical career within the group Os Residuos Atráctivas.
Masha will read from her award-winning collection, Dakota, which tells of a journey between Galicia and the USA, filled with reminders of distant corners in space yet closer in emotional and sensory terms, from the perspective of an attentive observer of the small or great.
